“Greatness from Small Beginnings” - The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) launched Tatak PINOYpreneur: The DOST-TAPI Technopreneurship Programs during the virtual celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on 25 November 2021.
Led by DOST-TAPI Director, Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, the ceremonial ribbon cutting signifies the launch of Tatak PINOYpreneur: The DOST-TAPI Technopreneurship Programs
The campaign signifies the further promotion of DOST-TAPI’s existing program for the local startups, and micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs), students, and professional organizations.
Tatak PINOYpreneur packages the available programs of assistance for easy access and signifies as a seal of approval that the beneficiaries are ready to put their products or technologies in the market.
As PINOYpreneurs, the stakeholders are able to achieve the goals in upgrading and expanding businesses through improving the operations and production, materializing youth enterprises for profit, and connecting to the target market.
Venture Financing
Through financial assistance, DOST-TAPI supports local startups and MSMEs by accelerating the commercialization of local technologies.
Mr. Rodel R. Oracion, Venture Financing Program Manager, said that “the program helps improve operations and increase production, secure certifications as a requirement for environmentally-sound purposes from regulating bodies, and assist technology transfer of DOST-developed technologies.”
Youth Empowerment through Technopreneurship (YET)
To improve technopreneurial spirit among youth, the YET Program focuses on entrepreneurial competencies of students and young professionals.
“Ang kagandahan pa dito, a successful project implementation is considered as a project completion and the financial assistance given will be converted into a grant,” said Ms. Mylene A. Alano, YET Program Manager.
Institutional Support for Technology Expositions (ISTE)
DOST-TAPI also presented their marketing support for stakeholders.
Ms. Rodelia R. Padilla, Program Manager of ISTE, put forward the institute’s Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) and the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) that promotes local inventions and innovations through a form of contest.
Furthermore, ISTE showcases DOST technologies and latest advances in science and technology through exhibitions, demonstrations, and trade fairs.
“Sa ganitong paraan, nadadala rin natin ang mga breakthroughs sa iba’t ibang parte ng bansa kahit sa mga lugar na mahirap puntahan sa mga regions,” stated Padilla.
Not just entrepreneurship
“With the fast-changing landscape where market players tend to immerse or swim in the industry, it is not enough to rely on being an entrepreneur but an enterprise backed by science, technology, and innovation that can stand the test of time”, said Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, DOST-TAPI Director.
Meanwhile, in his message, DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña emphasized the increase in numbers of entrepreneurs in the country and the need to promote technopreneurship as strategies for growth.
“As a scientific community together we push a science and technology culture that is built on values of inclusive and sustainable development,” expressed Sec. de la Peña.
Sec. de la Peña also emphasized that the DOST has always believed in the capabilities of Filipino enterprise in becoming global competitive brands that are at par with international ones.
