The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI), in collaboration with DOST Regional Offices, is set to conduct the search for the outstanding patents or registrations, and research in country.

RICE is a nationwide activity that recognizes the indispensability of Filipino inventors and researchers

Dubbed as the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE), it provides encouragement to men and women inventors and researchers to showcase their inventive and creative capabilities through a form of competition for cash incentives, awards, and bragging rights.

Composed of five categories, RICE gives due recognition to the outstanding invention through the Tuklas Award, outstanding utility model through the Unlad Award, outstanding industrial design through the Banghay Award, outstanding creative research through the Likha Award, and outstanding student creative research for high school and college students through the Sibol Award.

Open to both public and private inventors and researchers in the regions, contestants shall undergo the qualifying round to be judged by highly-competent professionals who will comprise the panel of judges.

Five qualifiers shall move forward to the final round where they will have the chance to present and demonstrate their entries before the panel of judges.

Specific to the categories, the finalists will be judged according to the set criteria which include novelty, commercial viability, stage of development and cost, unique value proposition, and scientific and technical merits, among others.

With a cash prize to as much as Php 50,000.00, winners of the regional contest shall represent their region to the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) in 2022.

Further, all qualifiers are entitled and encouraged to avail of the comprehensive DOST-TAPI Programs for pilot production, pilot and market testing, laboratory analysis and testing, venture financing, and loan assistance.
