You can now confidently put all your eggs in one basket—or in this case, an egg incubator technology, thanks to the persistent innovation of Mardinio Azores.
The inventor from Valenzuela City believes he has developed the best version yet of his invention, which promises maximum egg hatchability and good quality of hatchlings. All it took were years of testing and iterating, and commitment to deliver the best product for his customers.
Right Temperature
In incubating and hatching eggs, it is all about getting the temperature right, Azores said. “The temperature inside an incubator could often be a problem, and that is what my product is trying to solve,” he explained. “Malaking bagay talaga ‘yung makuha mo ang tamang temperature ng itlog.”
Azores’ invention uses a digital controller that ensures the optimum temperature inside the incubator is within range. He noted that the temperature of his incubator should be set at 38 degrees centigrade—a few notches lower than a hen incubating at 40 degrees centigrade—to avoid premature hatching.
Energy Efficient
Azores went through several versions of his invention to come up with an incubator design that not only hatches eggs “almost 100 percent” every time but also saves on energy.
“I made a version with a box design. I also made one with a cabinet design. But I can say that my best design would be the drawer-type incubator,” he shared.
Azores explained that almost half of the heat escapes when you open an incubator with a single-door design. With his multiple-drawer design, heat loss is kept at a minimum when you open a drawer one at a time.
The built-in heater and fan at the bottom of his incubator is another energy-saving design that sets his technology apart from similar products in the market. He explained that the heat inside his invention naturally rises from its base, while the fan circulates all the heat and moisture inside the incubator.
He added that you just simply plug in the incubator and start loading eggs without waiting for it to warm up.
“Almost 100 percent of the heat is maximized by the incubator,” Azores said. “That is why this is not a costly incubator in terms of power consumption. ‘Yun ang pinagkaiba nito sa iba.”
TAPI-Supported Invention
Azores and his egg incubator are among the many proudly Pinoy inventors and inventions that received much-needed government support, thanks to the programs of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Aside from securing legal protection for his egg incubator through TAPI’s Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP), Azores was also able to bring his invention into the market, thanks to TAPI’s accessible financing assistance that helped him set up his enterprise, Kaibigan Mar Azores Incubators.
“We now have a place to produce our incubators, and this was made possible when I applied for financial assistance from TAPI so I can have starting capital for my business,” he said.
Through word of mouth and online referrals, Azores sold many units of his drawer-type and custom-made egg incubators, which can hold from 100 to 1,000 eggs.
Aside from egg and poultry businesses and foreign customers, his satisfied patrons include breeders who found his invention as the perfect incubator for hatching different kinds of eggs—from reptiles like snakes and turtles, to various birds, including game fowl and ostriches.
Azores hopes that with his successful endeavor, he can continue to invest and expand his production of incubators, sustain his enterprise, and branch out to other products, as well.
“I can see that TAPI is really one of the few who are genuinely helping Filipino inventors with potential,” he said. “Ang ganda ng tulong ng TAPI sa akin, kaya maraming, maraming salamat sa TAPI.”
