Q: WHERE CAN I SUBMIT MY ENTRY?
A: The RICE for each region has its own submission link. You may access the links to submit your entry and download soft copies of the documentary requirements through the this link: [http://tapi.dost.gov.ph/news/32-rice-call-for-entries-2021]
But remember to send the hard copies of the documents to DOST-TAPI. The hard copies of the entry documents must reach the DOST-TAPI office on or before the deadline for the region you are joining. You must also be a resident of the region you wish to join. For the list of submission deadlines, please visit the this link: [http://tapi.dost.gov.ph/news/38-inventions-and-innovations-rice-in-2021]
Q: DO I NEED TO HAVE MY ENTRY FORMS NOTARIZED?
A: Yes, all entry forms (RIC Form 1, 3A, & 3B), waivers (RIC Form 2 & 4), and certifications (RIC Form 5 & 6) must be duly notarized by a notary public.
Q: WHAT IF I HAVE ALREADY FILED MY INVENTION WITH THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OF THE PHILIPPINES (IPOPHL) BUT IS NOT YET PATENTED, WILL I QUALIFY FOR THE INVENTION (TUKLAS) CATEGORY?
A: To qualify for the Invention Category (Tuklas Award), your invention must be patented at the IPOPHL. In fact, entries for the Utility Model (Unlad) and Industrial Design (Banghay) will also have to be registered to be eligible for these categories.
You may, however, still join in the Creative Research Category (Likha Award).
Q: HOW MANY ENTRIES CAN I SUBMIT PER CATEGORY?
A: You may submit up to three (3) entries per category provided that the main author/inventor per entry is not the same. Once you reach the maximum entries, subsequent entries per category will be removed or disqualified.
Q: IF MY ENTRY HAS PREVIOUSLY WON IN THE PAST REGIONAL OR NATIONAL INVENTION CONTEST, CAN I STILL SUBMIT IT IN THE 2021 RICE?
A: If your entry has won in the previous regional or national invention contests—first prize, second prize, or third prize—in the Invention, Utility Model (UM), and Industrial Design (ID) categories, you are no longer eligible to join in the 2021 RICE or subsequent national invention contests. But winners of the previous regional or national invention contests in the Creative Research and Student Creative Research categories may still enter in the Invention, UM, and ID categories of the 2021 RICE or subsequent regional and national invention contests provided that the intellectual property (IP) is patented or registered.
Q: I’M A STUDENT AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY RESEARCH PROTECTED. CAN DOST-TAPI HELP ME WITH THIS?
A: Yes, all creative research or student creative research may be applied for DOST-TAPI’s Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP). To know more about IPRAP visit this link: [https://techtrans.gov.ph/how-we-serve/regular-programs/intellectual-property-rights-ipr-assistance-program]
Q: DO I HAVE TO SUBMIT HARD COPIES OF MY ENTRY?
A: Yes, hard copies of your entries must reach DOST-TAPI on or before the deadline. Otherwise, your entry will be disqualified.
Q: ARE THERE ANY TIPS TO ENSURE THAT MY ENTRY GETS SHORTLISTED FOR THE FINAL ROUND?
A: Make sure to fill out the forms completely. When describing your technology or research, do so in a concise manner.
Q: I HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED AFTER THE QUALIFYING ROUND. PART OF THE FINAL SCORE WILL COME FROM THE VIDEO PRESENTATION BUT I DON’T HAVE ANY FANCY EQUIPMENT TO RECORD VIDEOS. WHAT DO I DO?
A: Be creative and resourceful! You can use your phone or ask friends and family to help you with your video. Your video doesn’t have to be heavily produced—it just has to communicate the value of your technology or research, and it has to capture the people’s attention. Have fun with it!
You may also request the assistance of your DOST Regional Office in recording your videos.
Q: I AM A RICE FINALIST IN MY REGION. THE FINAL ROUND WILL BE HELD VIRTUALLY BUT I AM NOT ABLE TO ACCESS THE WEB WITH PERSONAL WIFI OR DATA. WHAT DO I DO?
A: Coordinate with your school if they can provide wifi to access the virtual event online. You may also contact DOST-TAPI and/or the DOST Regional Office in your area for additional assistance.
Q: I KNOW SOMEONE WITH A GREAT SCIENCE IDEA. CAN THEY JOIN RICE 2021 TOO?
A: Yes! Tell your friends all about it. The more entries we have, the more chances we learn about your great ideas to improve society. Enjoy and see you at the 2021 RICE!
WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES!
