The Department of Science and Technology—Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) strengthens its internationalization campaign for technology promotion by showcasing the ingenuity of Filipino inventors and innovators at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2024, to be held in Seoul, South Korea, from November 27 to 30, 2024.

This participation reflects DOST-TAPI's continuous commitment to advancing technology transfer programs, fostering global market penetration, and supporting Filipino inventors through strengthening and expanding its international linkages. The Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2024 is a premier global event that promotes innovation and invention. Hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), SIIF has been showcasing world-class inventions since 2002. The fair brings together inventors, researchers, manufacturers, investors, and distributors from over 30 countries, offering a platform for networking and collaboration.
Here are the homegrown inventions that will represent and raise the Philippine Flag at SIIF 2024
1. MAKE-roscope
Inventor: Engr. Jeremy C. De Leon
This compact device transforms smartphones or tablets into portable microscopes, offering magnifications up to 400 times. It’s an affordable alternative for students and schools that may not have access to individual microscopes.
2. Multifunctional School Furniture / Silyang Pinoy
Technology Owner: DOST - Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI)
Inventors: Engr. Edward Paul S. Marasigan, Loreto A. Novicio, Chris Johnniel France Rana, Victor G. Revilleza, Precious Lynne S. Payuan. Calixto T. Calulo. Rafael D. Sungcaya, and Eduardo M. Atienza
A multifunctional desk made of engineered bamboo, designed to serve as a desk, chair, and even a bed during emergencies in evacuation centers.
3. Smarter and Integrated Local Health Information System (SMILHIS) – eHATID

The eHATID system digitizes patient records to streamline data management and reporting, featuring an offline mode for remote access and analytics. Specifically designed for local health government units with limited resources, it aims to enhance public health services and outcomes.
4. DEBCC Cream for Skin Cancer & DEGEN Cream for External Genital Warts
Inventors: Lelalee Dela Cruz-Alonte, Lorena Dela Cruz-Chiu, Richard Dela Cruz, and Rommel Dela Cruz
DEBCC Cream is a herbal cream made from cashew nut extract and other local ingredients designed as a potential solution for basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a form of skin cancer.
Meanwhile, DEGEN Cream is a topical cream made from natural ingredients aimed at treating external genital warts, providing an alternative to surgical treatments.
5. Smart Helmet: The Head Covering Emergency Alarm System
Inventors: Peter John R. Bacani, Miraleih S. Jaime. Roldan Guiuo, and Wendilyn Cabanilla
A smart helmet equipped with AI and sensors to monitor rider safety, detecting over-speeding, and fatigue, and sending emergency alerts in case of danger or accident.
6. i-POND

A real-time water monitoring system for shrimp farming, which measures critical parameters like temperature, pH, and salinity to optimize farming conditions.
7. HormoGroe® Nanoformulated Plant Growth Regulator

Inventors: Lilia M. Fernando, Erlinda S. Paterno, Herald Nygel F. Bautista, Juan Miguel K. Parami, Teofila DC Villar, and Florina E. Merca.
HormoGroe® is a natural plant growth regulator, encapsulated in tiny particles for controlled release, which helps prevent soil degradation. Derived mainly from plant-based sources, it promotes sustainable farming by supporting plant growth in an eco-friendly way.
8. Wastewater Treatment System for Wet-type Finishing Spray Booths

The Equipment System and Process for Treating Wastewater from Wet-type Finishing Spray booths addresses toxic chemicals observed in wastewater from furniture-manufacturing companies by controlling the spread of excess varnish or paint. This technology helps reduce the release of poisonous substances into the environment.
9. Turbo Rice Steamer
Inventor: Mr. Francisco H. Gecosala
The Turbo Rice Steamer can cook large quantities of rice, reducing the number of batches needed to supply fast-food restaurants and catering services. Also, it could be powered by various fuel sources, including wood, charcoal, rice husk, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
10. Development and Field Testing of Retort Foods as Food Ration for Men in Uniform during Combat and High-Risk Operations

Inventors: Floridel V. Loberiano, Grace D. Noceja, Ermin S. Orendain, Vicente P. Casas, & Allan B. Quirante
Under the brand “Pack of Duty,” this Ready-to-Eat meal offers safe, stable food rations with nutritional value in sealed containers or pouches. With a one-year shelf life, it provides convenience for people with demanding jobs, outdoor activities, and emergency needs.
11. IET Pro: The Impulse Excitation Technique Prototype
Inventors: Beatrice V. Bayan, Jose Mario A. Diaz, & Geoffrey Matthew Tan
The IET Pro is an affordable, non-damaging tool for measuring how materials bend and stretch, compared to commercially available IET tools. It consists of a mainframe, USB microphone, and impulse or mallet, making it essential for small-scale research and helping engineers select suitable project materials.
12. Covert Security Yarns for Anti-Counterfeiting

Inventors: Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Jenneli E. Caya, Gabriel Nicolo A. De Guzman, Jeff Ryan S. Magalong, Danielle Marie D. Magpantay, & Michael Raymond T. Samson
The Covert Security Yarn technology embeds glow-in-the-dark materials into textile fibers to distinguish imitated textiles from authentic ones, enhancing security features. The textile markings emit colors when exposed to UV radiation, allowing traceability of the fabric’s origin.
13. Bamboo Textile Fiber Technology

Inventors: Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Eduardo M. Marin, & Lucila E. Yap
Bamboo Textile Fiber Technology offers an eco-friendly method of extracting bamboo fibers to produce fabrics using alkaline solutions which is less damaging to the environment. Unlike the traditional, expensive process, this approach aligns with global trends toward sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
14. Pili Seal®
Inventor: Engr. Mark Kennedy E. Bantugon
The Pili Seal, derived from discarded Pili tree resin, provides a sustainable, dual-purpose solution both as an adhesive and sealant, minimizing environmental risks compared to synthetic alternatives. Its ability to adhere to a wide range of materials, including metal, glass, wood, ceramics, and more, makes it suitable for industries like aviation, construction, and roofing.
