The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) spearheaded the first online DOST Researchers’ Conference on October 16, 2020.
The online conference gathered researchers and technology generators from the sectoral councils and research development institutes.
The DOST Researchers’ Conference: Creating Technologies, Making Change Happen was conducted on 16 October 2020 online
With the theme, “Creating Technologies, Making Change Happen,” the conference capacitated the researchers and technology generators in identifying research topics and encouraged them to participate in expansion ventures.
Success stories of research and development (R&D) efforts were the collective focal point of the first session where the resource speakers shared their inspiring journey and gave the participants important advice on expanding and commercializing their research.
Dr. Raul V. Destura of the University of the Philippines Manila talked about his research on the automated manufacturing of molecular diagnostic kits.
These diagnostic kits are affordable and locally-developed rapid test kits for accurate detection of dengue infection within an hour.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lucille V. Abad of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute presented her research on the carrageenan plant growth promoter which allows up to 30 percent increase in crop yield.
It also provides crop resistance and typhoon survival when applied to plants and crops.
Lastly, Racky D. Doctor of the Nutridense Food Manufacturing Corporation, shared his journey in adopting the fortified rice-mongo complementary food, a blend of rice flour and mongo flour.
The second part of the seminar focused on the issues and challenges in R&D, technology transfer, and commercialization.
Anya Yasmin A. Roslin of the DOST Central Office discussed the DOST Science for Change Program (S4CP) and was followed by Russell M. Pili of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development, who talked about the topic, “Ideation to Scale-up.”
As a culmination, Caesar Angelito E. Arceo of DOST-TAPI talked about the Derwent patent landscape on creating technologies to realize change through patent analytics.
