In celebration of the technologies generated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), a three-part book compilation, “Onward: A Decade of DOST Technologies,” chronicles DOST technology for commercialization, public good, and extension.
Spearheaded by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the book highlighted 250 technologies, including their inventors and researchers, that were funded by DOST in the last decade.
The three-part book compilation, “Onward: A Decade of DOST Technologies,” chronicles the DOST technologies for commercialization, public good, and extension in the last 10 years
By supporting the development of these technologies, the Department relays its encouragement of technology commercialization as a promotion of research and development in the country.
In the Commercialization Book, 188 technologies were featured including the portable mango sprayer, sea cucumber dryer, mechanized coffee depulper, and pelletizing machine for goat feeds, among others, all of which have already been commercialized.
The technologies in the Commercialization Book are those that would enable the adopter to generate profit when one decides to license the intellectual property (IP) rights of a technology.
As for the Public Good Book, 30 technologies that are free for use by the public were featured.
The furnace-type lumber dryer, advanced handloom weaving, “Aruga sa Batang May Cancer” website, and the Philippine traditional knowledge digital library are just some of the freely available technologies that can be found in the Public Good Book.
Lastly, for the Extension Book, 32 technologies were showcased.
These technologies include the jackfruit bagging technology, Electronics Product and Development Center, calamansi juice concentrate, and smoked fish processing.
Extension is the process in which technologies are transferred from research and development institutes and similar institutions to seek solutions for specific development concerns.
“Onward: A Decade of DOST Technologies” will be formally launched during the Week-Long Accomplishment and Culminating Activity of Special Projects on 27 July 2021 via online.
