“What is your image of resilience? Ano para sa inyo ang imahe ng katatagan?” DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. started his message with this question. He added: “How do we picture or how do we envision resilience in the Philippines?”. To answer his question, he gave the audience three main important points from this: 1.) better understanding of Philippines’ risk profile; 2.) role of science, technology and innovation in resilience building; and 3.) making science work across sectors.

With that being said, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) initiated the conduct of HANDA Pilipinas: Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Expo 2022 last November 09-11, 2022 at the Hall A, World Trade Center, Pasay City. The event was spearheaded by DOST in partnership with the Technology Application and Promotion Institute and the DOST-National Capital Region (NCR). HANDA Pilipinas: Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Expo 2022 does not only promote existing DOST technologies, programs and services that improve current operations of local DRRM offices but also capacitate and strengthen partnership and coordination among stakeholders on DRRM. The three-day event consisted of an exposition featuring the latest DOST technologies and products; forums and technology demonstrations from various guests and DOST agencies and experts; and a press conference with local and regional partners.

“Personally, I want HANDA Pilipinas done every year because this is really devoted for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and perhaps, we can do this every July which is the National Disaster Consciousness Month” said by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U.
